Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger have announced their engagement.

“Congratulations Avril and Chad!” tweeted Nickelback Tuesday evening, a message that was then retweeted by Lavigne.

People reports the two hooked up in February to co-write a song for Avril’s upcoming fifth studio album.

Kroeger popped the question on August 8, presenting Lavigne with a 14-carat diamond ring.

It will be the Nickelback singer’s first marriage; Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley.
