Justin Bieber smashes Spotify streaming records with Purpose

Justin Bieber has smashed a pair of Spotify streaming records with his fourth album, “Purpose.”

The project has set new global and U.S. records for the most streams for an album in its first week of release, with 205 million global streams and 77 million U.S. streams.

The global record was previously held by The Weeknd's “Beauty Behind The Madness” with 90 million global streams in its opening week.

The follow-up to 2012’s “Believe” sees Bieber joined by special guests including Ariana Grande, Big Sean, Travi$ Scott, Nas, Halsey, Skrillex and Diplo.

The Canadian star launched “Purpose” in the US with appearances on The Tonight Show, The Today Show and The Late Late Show, among others.

Bieber will launch an extensive North American tour in support of the album on March 9 in Seattle, WA.
