M.I.A. to release new album in December

M.I.A. took to Twitter this week to talk with fans about her forthcoming new album.

“If you want to know about LP = ask me questions and ill choose 10 to answer," M.I.A. wrote, encouraging fans to get involved.

When asked for song details on the untitled project, the singer replied, “its still in the making - could be 5 it could be 15 depends on what sounds good in my bros CAR.”

As for the possible involvement of other artists, M.I.A. said the album will not feature any collaborations.

She also confirmed that she’ll be launching the album, a book, a documentary and an art exhibition in December.

In February, M.I.A. made international headlines when she appeared alongside Madonna during the Super Bowl halftime show and flipped the middle finger to the camera during her rap on “Give Me All Yer Luvin’.”

VIDEO: Madonna kisses Nicki Minaj on her birthday

The internet was a buzz a few months ago when word got out that Madonna had kissed Nicki Minaj while filming the video for “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” the first single from her “MDNA” album, out Tuesday.

Now the video of the event has surfaced online.

Madonna presented Minaj with cupcakes and champagne and led the cast and crew in a birthday singalong.

Nicki blew out the candles and received a kiss from Madonna on her big day.

“You guys, thank you so much,” Minaj said. “And I have to thank the queen, Madonna, for giving me this amazing opportunity. I love her so much, and she’s fierce, and she didn’t have to do this for me — and M.I.A., we love you!”

Nicki later tweeted about the kiss, writing, “OH MY f’ingggg Gahhhh!!!!! MADONNA jus kissed me!!!!! On the lips!!!!!!! It felt sooooo good. Soooo soft!!!! *passes out* aaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!”

“It was her birthday,” said Madonna when asked about it later. “So just fill in the blanks … It was the end of one of those long days. We were having a few sips of champagne and I kissed her, yes.”

AUDIO: Madonna talks about M.I.A.’s Super Bowl middle finger

Madonna’s Super Bowl appearance went so smoothly for the pop superstar that she tells Ryan Seacrest she “was overwhelmed” during the performance of her hit “Like a Prayer.”

When she finished, “I started crying. I felt an incredible sense of warmth, love, and support,” said Madonna. “To see an entire stadium light up like candles it was like a religious experience.”

What Madonna was unaware of, until later, was M.I.A.’s middle finger gesture during “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” the new single with her and Nicki Minaj.

“I didn’t know about until I left; I had no idea,” Madonna said. “I found out about it in the elevator when I got into the car to go to the airport.”

“I was really surprised,”
she continued. “I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it. I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity…it seemed negative. It’s such a teenager kinda, in a way, irrelevant thing to do in one respect. There was such a feeling of love and unity there. What was the point? It was just out of place.”

M.I.A. could pay FCC fine for Super Bowl middle finger

It’s too early to tell if M.I.A.’s middle finger salute during Madonna’s Super Bowl performance on Sunday is going to be an expensive gesture.

M.I.A. looked directly at the camera during her portion of Madonna’s single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” and threw the finger up before NBC could switch camera angles.

If the FCC gets involved and decides to issue a fine for the incident, TMZ reports M.I.A. will end up paying the bill.

Sources tell TMZ that the NFL has indemnified NBC, because the NFL is responsible for the halftime content.

TMZ reports M.I.A. signed a contract with the NFL for the halftime performance, and in that contract she agreed to indemnify the NFL for any money it might be forced to pay if the FCC issues a penalty for the performance.

In 2004, CBS was hit with a $550,000 FCC fine after Janet Jackson's famous wardrobe malfunction, but that fine was later thrown out by a federal appeals court.

M.I.A.’s gesture was in sync with the theme of her new single, “Bad Girls,” which was released last Friday.

Watch the full Madonna Super Bowl performance here.

Stay tuned.

Super Bowl profile increases Madonna’s music sales

Performing at the biggest event of the year has its advantages.

Billboard reports Madonna’s Super Bowl appearance has led to an increase in sales of both new and old music by the pop superstar.

Madonna’s new single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" has sold over 100,000 downloads in the U.S. according to industry sources (through the close of business Sunday, Feb. 5), while pre-orders for her album via the iTunes Store stand around the 50,000 mark.

Billboard will release Nielsen SoundScan's exact sales data on "Luvin's" first three days of sales on Wednesday morning (Feb. 8).

"MDNA" is the Super Bowl diva's 12th studio album, and is due out March 26. The album was exclusively available for pre-orders on iTunes beginning Friday, Feb. 3; her single and video for "Luvin'" also premiered digitally the same day.

Madonna's back catalog also got a sales boost last week, thanks to sale pricing and publicity generated by her new single and her Super Bowl halftime performance.

Sources say her top 10 digital sellers are showing a collected increase of over 1,700%.

Her "Celebration" greatest hits album got the largest bump, selling between 13,000-14,000 download copies (up from a couple hundred units the week previous). The best-of set was discounted to $6.99 in the iTunes Store, while most of her other albums were priced at $7.99 at the retailer; it also sold for $3.99 on Sunday in the Amazon MP3 store.

Madonna’s Super Bowl show was watched by 114 million viewers.

Madonna’s Super Bowl show watched by 114 million

Madonna’s Super Bowl Halftime show had more viewers than the game itself.

Billboard reports the pop icon’s performance had an audience of nearly 3 million more viewers than the football game.

The singer's halftime performance was seen by 114.0 million viewers, nearly 4 million more than last year's performance featuring the Black Eyed Peas.

It is the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show featuring entertainment; Bruce Springsteen, for example, attracted 95.7 million viewers.

Super Bowl 46 was the most-watched television program in U.S. history and the highest-rated Super Bowl in 26 years, according to fast national data from Nielsen.

The game, in which the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots, 21-17, was seen by a record 111.3 million viewers, beating last year's Super Bowl 45 on Fox by 300,000 viewers. Viewership peaked between 9:30 and 9:58 ET, when 117.7 million viewers tuned in.

Madonna did the Super Bowl show to promote her new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin’" , featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., who both appeared with her for the track; Madonna’s new album, "MDNA", is due March 26.

VIDEO: M.I.A. flips middle finger during Madonna’s Super Bowl show

Considering Madonna’s history for generating scandal, the pop superstar was free and clear of it during her Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday in Indianapolis.

Instead, it was M.I.A. who is generating headlines for her part in the performance.

Along with Nicki Minaj, the singer joined Madonna for her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’” , which was released last Friday.

During M.I.A.’s rap late in the track, the singer raised her middle finger to the TV camera while doing her thing, which ended with an expletive…or, at least, part of one.

For their part, NBC issued a statement of apology to its viewers.

"We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime," NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey said. "It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late."

The NBC delay system failed to give the broadcaster enough time to change camera angles by the sudden gesture, as the producers rushed to cover it up.

Spokesman Brian McCarthy said M.I.A. did not do anything resembling the gesture during rehearsals and the league had no reason to believe she would do something like that during the actual show.

"The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans," McCarthy said.

Madonna delivered a flawless performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday in Indianapolis.

The pop icon made her grand entrance to Lucas Oil Stadium by being carried in by a contingent of gladiators, who placed Madonna at center stage.

Opening with her 1990 smash, “Vogue,” Madonna glided across the stage, connecting with various dancers along the way while the field lit up with images of the superstar.

Next came “Music,” with Madonna dancing across a set of bleachers on stage; late in the song, one dancer did some magical moves on a tight wire.

Madonna then joined LMFAO for a quick medley, before being hooking up with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’” , released on Friday. The video’s cheerleader motif was recreated by the three singers, who each took turns on the mic; M.I.A. raised a middle finger to the camera during her section, as the TV production team tried to switch camera angles as quickly as possible.

Another quick medley followed, as Cee Lo Green joined Madonna for glimpses of “Open Your Heart” and “Express Yourself,” and then stayed for the finale of “Like A Prayer” ; the two – in black gowns - were joined by a full choir as Madonna wrapped up her 12 minutes on one of the world’s biggest stages.
