Adele remains on top of the US charts for a 20th week.
Billboard reports the singer’s Grammy week profile helped her “21” album fend off a big debut for Van Halen to keep Adele in the #1 slot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Adele's "21" sold 237,000 last week, representing a sales boost of 95%. As a result, Van Halen's "A Different Kind Of Truth" arrives in the #2 position with 187,000.
Adele won six Grammys on Sunday - including album, record and song of the year - and performed on the broadcast. It was her first stage performance since undergoing throat surgery last year.
With 20 (non-consecutive) weeks at #1, it marks the longest run at the top of the chart since "The Bodyguard" spent 20 weeks at #1 in 1992-1993.
It remains to be seen if Adele can hold on for a 21st week, as she’ll face stiff competition from the late Whitney Houston, whose fans are buying her music by the ton.
Houston’s "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" album re-enters the Billboard 200 chart at #6, after it sold 64,000 copies - reflecting only one full day of sales after her passing.
With Whitney’s funeral set for Saturday, it’s possible fans will continue to buy more of her music and send her to the top of the chart.
Adele is also sitting at #9 with her debut, "19," which sold 36,000 (up 103%). It's the first time an act has had two albums in the top 10 since March 19, 2011, when Justin Bieber occupied the #4 and #8 slots with "Never Say Never: the Remixes" (EP) and "My World 2.0," respectively.
